The latest news in Bengali from West Bengal - পশ্চিমবঙ্গ - is that the state government has decided to reopen all schools and colleges from November 5. This decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet on Wednesday. The education minister said that the decision was taken in view of the COVID-19 situation in the state. He said that all necessary precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of students and staff. The minister also said that the reopening of schools and colleges will be staggered, with classes 9 to 12 being allowed to resume first. Classes 1 to 8 will resume from November 19. This comes after the state government had earlier announced the closure of all schools and colleges till November 14 in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state. The state has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases in the past few weeks. As of Wednesday, the state had recorded nearly 1.5 lakh cases, with over 1,200 deaths.
